Heavenly Father, forgive me for always worrying in the face of difficult situations. It's hard for me to believe that one can go through the Red Sea when there is no available bridge or boat (Exodus 14:13-31).
I sometimes forget that you are the God who makes a way where there seems to be no way and who makes the impossible possible (Luke 1:37).
As long as we have you as our source, it doesn't matter if there are no available resources. I tend to always focus on what's going on around me instead of focusing on you and what you've promised. You've shown yourself to be faithful over and over again! O Lord, please help my unbelief. Help me to be a man of faith.
Sometimes it's hard to be at peace in the face of a raging storm. I keep thinking I'm going to sink and drown. I think of when the disciples woke up Jesus in the storm and said, "Master, don't you care that we are going to perish?" (Mark 4:38-40). Was it that Jesus didn't really care about them? Were they truly going to perish? Would Jesus have really allowed the storm to take his disciples under his watch?
In moments when it seems you are silent or there is no swift deliverance, we tend to give in to anxiety and feel like maybe you don't care about us. But I am reminded of the scripture that says, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7). God does really care about us, even when we don't seem to feel it.
Lord, many of us have been overwhelmed lately about what's going on in our lives and families. Many of us have battles and struggles that we can't even talk to others about. Many of us have had sleepless nights and times when we cry ourselves to sleep. I am reminded of the scripture that says, "Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you" (Psalm 55:22).
Lord, please help me to trust you and fix my eyes on you, not on what is going on around me or in my life. Just as Jesus said, "Jairus' daughter wasn't dead but asleep" (Mark 5:39), help me not to see my situation as it appears but as Jesus calls it. Help me to believe your word over my circumstances, Lord, and just as David said, "I will live to see the goodness of God in the land of the living" (Psalm 27:13).
Peace is not necessarily the absence of the raging storm, but knowing God is with us and in control in the face of the raging storm.
Lord, help me to be still in the face of what was meant to steal my peace. Lord, help me to rejoice in the face of what was meant to disturb my joy. Lord, help me not to think about the situation but to think about what you said concerning the situation.
Lord, just as King Jehoshaphat said, "We don't have the power to fight this great multitude that has come against us, nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on you" (2 Chronicles 20:12).
Just as we are admonished in the book of Proverbs, help us, Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts and not to lean on our own understanding, but to acknowledge you in all our ways (Proverbs 3:5-6).
A passage in Psalm reminds us that you will instruct and teach us in the way we should go; you will guide us with your eye (Psalm 32:8). Though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we will fear no evil. Your rod and staff will comfort us (Psalm 23:4).
Lord, you are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Thank you for your presence to keep us, strengthen, and help us in the face of trouble.
