I had a meaningful conversation with a friend recently, and one statement resonated deeply: 'There are situations God allows to bring us to the end of ourselves.' This echoed what the Lord has been speaking to me about lately.
By nature, we tend to rely on our own strength, trying to figure out and fix problems ourselves instead of seeking God. Consider King Jehoshaphat's experience. When three nations joined forces against him, he realized his military might wasn't enough. He fasted and prayed, acknowledging his limitations and God's omnipotence.
In his prayer, Jehoshaphat said, 'Lord, we have no power against this great multitude, nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on you' (2 Chronicles 20:12). This was a prayer of surrender and trust. How often do we pray with such humility?
God allows challenging situations not to punish us but to bring us to a place of surrender and trust. Sometimes, we try to fix what's meant to drive us to dependence on Him. That situation won't resolve until we surrender.
Failure and disappointment can refocus our trust from self to God. May we learn to surrender like Jehoshaphat, saying, 'Lord, we can't fix this, but our eyes are on you.' Help us, Lord, to trust you in every situation.
